Patient vs. Medical Staff at Correctional Facility, Edward A. Hadley, Phillip North, Brent A. Kinney.

In January 2012, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee entered summary judgment dismissing a case filed on behalf of a deceased inmate arising out of the staff’s diagnosis and treatment of the inmate following an altercation with deputies. The Plaintiffs alleged that the inmate’s death was caused by injuries sustained in the altercation and that the staff failed to treat the inmate appropriately. The defense asserted that the death was caused by three clinically undiagnosable heart defects and that the staff provided appropriate care. The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the summary judgment. Costs were awarded to the Defendants against the Plaintiffs and collected.
