In January 2012, Eric Miles obtained a defense verdict on behalf of a Davidson County neurosurgical group in a wrongful death medical malpractice case. The plaintiff alleged that anesthesiologists employed by the neurosurgical group negligently managed a surgical patient’s diabetes and other medical conditions and discharged the patient too early from the surgical center. The defendant argued that the decedent’s medical conditions were adequately and appropriately managed and that his death was unrelated to the surgery. The case was tried for nearly two weeks and a Davidson County jury returned a verdict in favor of the neurosurgical group, finding that the plaintiff had failed to establish that the anesthesiologists were negligent.
