Recent & Notable Results:

  • Mr. Dixson and Renee Stewart obtained a defense verdict for a urologist in Davidson County, Tennessee on August 18, 2025, following a six-day jury trial. The jury returned its verdict after approximately two hours of deliberations. Plaintiffs sought a multi-million-dollar damages award related to an allegedly misplaced ureteral stent for kidney stone treatment. The patient ultimately required the removal of his kidney. The jury returned its verdict confirming that the urologist complied with the standard of care.
Prior to trial, this case was appealed to the Tennessee Supreme Court to determine certain questions of law, including whether the Plaintiffs were entitled to recover the amount of medical expenses charged, not just the amount of medical expenses paid. The Tennessee Supreme Court ruled that Plaintiffs could recover the charged amount of medical expenses. Nonetheless, at trial, Mr. Dixson successfully argued for a partial directed verdict and obtained dismissal of all claims for medical expenses by Plaintiffs, depriving them of the benefit of the Tennessee Supreme Court’s earlier ruling.
  • Mr. Dixson and Eric Miles obtained a defense verdict for a radiologist and his practice in Davidson County, Tennessee on September 23, 2024, following a six-day jury trial. The jury returned its verdict after approximately 90 minutes of deliberations. The patient developed ruptured appendicitis, which led to multiple hospitalizations and procedures for abscess drainages. The jury returned its verdict confirming that the radiologist was not at fault.
